if you can get going without pep pills,
if you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
if you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
if you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you
any of their time,

and those who love you take it out on you,
if you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
if you can resist treating a rich friend, better than a poor friend,

A Prayer For Animals (Albert Schweitzer)
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals.
Especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and to share the blessings of the merciful.
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge
connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow
Bridge because of its
many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge,
there is a land of
meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet
dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food
and water and warm
spring weather. The old and frail are young again. Those
maimed are made
whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing
missing. They are not with their special person who
loved them on Earth. So
each day they run and play until the day comes when
one suddenly stops
playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are
up! The eyes are
staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen,
and when you and your special friend meet, you take him
or her in your arms
and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, as you
look once more into
the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge
together, never again to be separated.

Things We Can Learn From A Dog...
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride,
Allow the
experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When
loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best
interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your
territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be loyal, Never pretend to be something you're
not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is
having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on
attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will
do.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When
you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often
you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back
and
make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
